![]() A hard drive that is 6 years old is not really a place that you would want to store data that you cannot afford to lose, so hopefully you have a secondary backup plan in place as well. The fact that you have firmware 7.8.1 on your Time Capsule tells us that the product is at least 6 years old and as much as almost 8 depending on when it was placed into service. Nothing that would affect the Time Capsule hard drive as far as I know. Why would Time Capsule show NONE for oldest backup and NONE for most recent backup?!įirmware 7.8.1 added some additional security for WiFi connections, but that's it. Where are my old backups?!?!?!?! Clearly they are there since there is only 120GB of free space left. When I open Time Machine in finder, I can only see backups from 10 days ago. I allowed Time Machine to proceed with backing up my computer to Time Capsule now. The most recent backup was 10 days ago (as my computer told me already) and the oldest backup would have been about 4 years ago. However the Time Machine application is saying NONE for oldest backup, and NONE for recent backup. Normal, since the 1TB Time Capsule has been used for a while. After doing that, it showed up as an available device to back up to, so I selected it. I powered off and on the Time Capsule, then went to the Time Machine application to select my backup disk. I went to select my backup device and my time Capsule was not listed as an available device. I'm literally next to the Time Capsule with my computer. Odd, since the Time Capsule is also I get internet and I can use the internet just fine. I went to manually back it up and got an error that it couldn't find the Time Capsule. That's not unusual as I often don't have it near my backup device (Time Capsule) open and on long enough for it to backup. Time Capsule Backups Are Missing My macbook pro told me today that it hadn't backed up in 10 days. If I need a new one what is a good replacement for the Airport Time Capsule that includes the distribution function or do I need to do that in a different way. So my questions are:ĭo I need a new backup disk or should my current setup keep going deleting old To further complicate things I am told that Apple have discontinued manufacture of the Airport Time Capsule. I have checked this out and it appears my impression may be incorrect and I may need a new backup device. I was under the impression from my Time Machine information in Preferences that "the oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full" and that I could just use my current setup indefinitely accepting the fact that old stuff is deleted. It appears the disc is full and my backups have stopped. ![]() It is my backup disk and is being used as a distribution device for several ethernet connected devices around my home because I do not have enough plugs in my modem. I hate thinking about doing a new back of two computers over wifi.Īirport Time Capsule I have a I tb Airport Time Capsule in my system. Is there a way to determine the condition of this time capsule - if there are a lot of bad sectors that is reducing the available space? Is my best move to erase the time capsule and start over? The total backup amount for two computers is about 580g and not a lot gets changed each day. After that there are backups for yesterday (September 7 and then normal backups for today, but now, the backup seems to be hung on preparing backup.Īdditionally the storage shows only 1.7g available of 2T so I'm guessing that is why the backup is going so slowly, despite adding only very small files to each update. Looking at Time Machine, I see a backup for Jand the next one is for Augnothing in between. It is possible that this is a coincidence that I just noticed. I updated my airport Base station firmware to 7.8.1 at the end of August and now I find that a lot of my backups have been erased.
